In 2021, when Hearts Educators was just beginning, we met a young boy in one of Lusaka’s underserved compounds whose biggest dream was simple, to go to school.
He had never been to school at all. His sister had started once, but later dropped out. Their parents were separated, their father was nowhere to be found, and the children lived with their grandmother. The grandmother’s wish was to see them in school, but without resources, that dream felt far beyond her reach.
Hearts Educators stepped in to advocate for the boy and girl’s placement at a nearby government school and provided uniforms, books, and learning materials.
When the boy finally walked into a classroom for the very first time, his face lit up with a smile full of joy and disbelief. It was not just his first day in class, it was the beginning of a future he had always wished for.
